Newsletter (Update) – April 2020
In view of the current situation, we are sure you will not be surprised to read this update.
Whilst we have already cancelled the March, April and July speakers and the May outing, we were hoping to still hold the Plant Sale on 10th May.
However, in view of the fact that it looks probable that the lock down and social distancing will continue for a while, your Committee have come to the following decisions:
- Cancel the plant sale
- Cancel the June speaker
And with the agreement of the full committee and the August show committee members:
- Cancel the August Show
This was the most difficult as it would have been our 40th Annual Show but in view of the fact that we are not sure if and when we can get the printing done, how we would be able to advertise the Show with the normal wide coverage and also the RHS have advised that although we have been awarded the Banksian Medal as usual, they are not sure when they will be able to issue them as the Company that makes them has closed down.
They have suggested that we may wish to award the medal this year to a member of the Club:
For those who will miss their show this year and still receiving a medal from the RHS you could, just for this year, choose to award the medal to the member of your club who has, during these difficult times, helped your members and your community the most. This is a unique opportunity to recognise someone awesome in your club with an RHS medal.
We are, therefore at the moment, planning to restart with our September meeting – Mary Fenton and “The Wonder of Trees”
However, if things improve and gatherings are allowed, we may consider holding an August Show, in a completely different format, for the members
We hope you agree with the decisions we have come to and we look forward to seeing you all in September, if not before.
In the meantime, keep safe and keep gardening.
