Our regular readers will be surprised to receive this as we usually don’t write in August!!
Firstly, we are pleased to announce that Jane Cross has volunteered to join the main committee. Jane firstly volunteered to learn the technology in the Village Hall so that in Jeremy’s absence we had someone to set up the microphone. She was then “press ganged” into volunteering to take over publicity from Bobbie and now volunteered to join the main committee. Welcome Jane!
Our July outing….
….. to the Welsh Lavender Farm was a great success. To call it a “farm” is a slight over statement because there are only two fields of lavender but the location is stunning! 22 of us managed to find our way there (even if many routes were followed!), including our two new members who travelled there is style!
Nancy and her staff made us very welcome, we were told how the enterprise started, that the variety of lavender used is “Grosso” and were then shown how the oil is extracted from lavender that was only picked that morning’
This was followed by tea and cakes which just kept flowing!!
AUGUST SHOW – SATURDAY 19th AUGUST 2018:
As you will be aware there is less than a week to go until the Show and we are all in the same situation. Flowers that should be in full bloom have been and gone, fruit and vegetables suffering from lack of water, some still not showing any signs of wanting to grow.
However, PLEASE don’t pre-judge your entries; we have all had the same very hot and dry growing conditions over the last few weeks, but we need to give our Judges some work to do!
The Show Committee put in a lot of hard work organising the day and we need your help. As Club Members it is YOUR show. Please don’t leave it to just a few of us to do all the work on the day. Whilst we now have at least one steward per section, ideally we like 2 so cover is provided at all times. If you are available and haven’t already volunteered please give Monica a call as soon as possible. Stewarding is an all day commitment, but there is a buffet lunch available in the small hall at a very modest cost, so just let Monica know if you wish to stay.
We will also be having our normal plant sale, so if you have anything left after our very successful sale in May, all donations gratefully received.
As usual Diane Howell-Thomas and her band of merry helpers will be organising the afternoon tea. If you have some time to spare in the afternoon, Diane is always grateful for some extra pairs of hands.
Our speaker on the 25th September is Christine Walkden and is a ticket only evening.
As this evening is also open to non-members and we will have about 150 people in the Hall, we will need extra help such as stewards, first aid and fire officers to name but a few.
A rota has been circulated but we are still looking for extra help so please contact Monica if you are able to help. Either contact her at the show, by phone or email.
Your Club needs you:
As you are aware we are looking for a book keeper or Treasurer to take over looking after our finances until the AGM.
If you are able to help please contact either Nick, David or Monica.
As you are already aware we are not able to up-date our website at the moment and therefore will only be able to let you be aware of any update by email.
We are in the process of sorting this and hopefully normal services will be resumed as soon as possible.
