ODGC Newsletter – December 2019

December is our AGM, the work part of it normally only takes about half an hour. For those of you who haven’t been before, your Chairman, Treasurer and Programme Secretary will present their reports, followed by Election of your officers.

Gill would like to have your thoughts on the speakers we have had over the last year and we are therefore attaching a questionnaire which we would be grateful if you could either complete and return to the Club email address (Word.doc)  or hand in (.pdf for printing) when you arrive at the AGM.

There have been no nominations to replace any of the existing officers. However, David would like to stand down as being known as our Treasurer, but is happy to stay on the Committee, and Gail has agreed to change her role from Book Keeper to Treasurer.

We have received one nomination to join the Committee, and we have three “volunteers” carrying out other very important roles, so the running of the Club is looking healthier than it has for some time!

Seed Orders:
Don’t forget, if you want to take advantage of the discounts being offered to the Club by Marshalls and T&M, then the orders must be placed through Monica. It is not too late to place your order as catalogues and order forms are still available.

For those of you who have already placed your orders, please collect them at the AGM as payment is due to Monica.

2020 and beyond:
Just a gentle reminder that as of January we are going back to a 8.00 pm start for the talk and the Hall will open at 7.15 pm for refreshments, raffle ticket sales, plant stall and sales.

As mentioned in the November newsletter, Chris Berry will be circulating a rota for refreshments in 2020 so please see her and sign up. Volunteers need to bring 2 pints of milk, biscuits and tea towels. The Club will reimburse up to £3, please bring your receipts and see the Treasurer for reimbursement.

As we have said above, Gill our Programme Secretary will present her report which will include telling you all about our 2020 programme which is ready to go live on our website after the AGM.

Gill has already started work on the 2021 programme so if there are any subjects you feel we need to include, please have a word with her.

Membership:
In order to ease the normal January rush, if you would like to give us your renewal cheque for £12.50, made payable to ODGC or Orleton and District Gardening Club, at the AGM (these will not be banked until January when you will be given your new membership card) it would be helpful, so please see Lorraine Munn and Sue Brown

And don’t forget:
The AGM is a shared supper – we all bring food to share, something savoury and something sweet, plus whatever you would like to drink. Bring your own crockery, cutlery and glasses and remember to put your names on any plates, etc being put on the centre table. The Club supplies bread, butter and cheese and there are supplies available if you wish to make yourself a tea or coffee BUT don’t forget to wash up after yourself!

And, following the success of the previous years:-
Win yourself a bottle of Wine in our Christmas Table Decoration Competition!

Things to do, places to go:
Hereford seed swap – Saturday, 1st February, 2020 10.00 am – 2.00 pm, Courtyard Theatre.
Leominster Seed Swap – 8th February 2020 at the Priory Church. The Church team will also be providing tea and cakes.
