ORLETON AND DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB ANNUAL SHOW 2025
On 16th August ODGC held its 44th Annual Show at Orleton Village Hall. Most classes were open to members only and included vegetables, fruit, cut flowers, pot plants, outdoor containers, baking, preserves and honey. Classes in alcohol based cordials and a fun section were open to all.
The exhibits were staged between 10 and 11.30 after which the club welcomed its judges, David Griffiths – vegetables, fruit and the fun section, Sue Hamer – cut flowers, pot plants and outdoor containers, Barbara Morgan – baking and preserves and Geoff Morris – honey and home-made drinks. The judges as always scrutinised each exhibit carefully and judging concluded at 1pm for lunch.
The warm, dry summer had caused concern about the number of entries. Gardeners love a challenge and entries exceeded expectation, 490 breaking the previous record of 335 since records began in 2007. Aubergines, peppers and other sun lovers gleamed, a kaleidoscope of tomatoes, large and small and ripe fruit including figs and peaches. Not to be outdone there was an impressive array of cut flowers and roses and sweet peas scented the hall. A phalanx of glowing bottles and preserves guarded delectable cakes.
The club was particularly pleased to welcome a large number of visitors this year when it opened at 1.30 for viewing and refreshments. A raffle was held at 3.30 after which trophies and certificates were presented.
ODGC is most grateful to Philpotts Nursery and Hinton’s Garden Centre for generously donating raffle prizes. Heartfelt thanks to the Show Committee, judges, exhibitors, volunteers, our wonderful ‘tea ladies’, visitors and all who helped to make our 44th Annual Show a rip roaring success.
