The visit
We have been invited to visit the garden at Field Farm, the home of Kim and Rob Hurst, many of you will have known them as formerly trading as The Cottage Herbery. The visit is arranged for Thursday 10th July, 2025 at 2.30 pm and will be a “make your own travel arrangements”. There are plenty of parking spaces.
The visit consists of a walk / talk tour of the garden followed by tea and cakes in the barn. The cost of the visit is £10 per person.
Although they no longer trade as The Cottage Herbery, there is still a working nursery as Rob does a few sales trading under his new name Culti-Vate, so there will be plants for sale.
We have to guarantee a minimum of 20 visitors so the £10 cost will be under our normal non-refundable payment. If, for some reason circumstances change, we are happy for you to pass on your ticket.
Please pay your £10 per person, preferably under our new BACS system (Account details: Orleton and District Gardening Club. Lloyds Bank: Sort Code: 30-99-08: Account 22530268), and see Monica to advise if you will have spare seats for the visit or would like a lift.
Full directions will be given near the date.
The garden
The garden at the Field Farm has been created in and around an old hop farm yard. Planted in a naturalistic contemporary style with choice perennials, self-seeding annuals, grasses, some well-known families and new cultivars with scatterings of the odd rarity. The black corn silo is surrounded by a large gravel garden with a tranquil natural swimming pond completing this eclectic space.
The garden blends in with the surrounding landscape, built to withstand the prevailing wind in an exposed situation, it has movement, flow and a raw beauty. Recent edition of extensive work turning over our farm to natural regeneration with the help of two happy Tamworth Sows, the planting of hundreds of trees and thousands of wild flowers. All of this sits above the Teme Valley with extensive views of the surrounding countryside.
The nursery is a working nursery, a little on the ancient side, with an interesting selection of plants. We have the knowledge of plant growing organically and peat-free and are growers of some 45 plus years.
A visit consists of a walk and talk around the garden with tea and cake (included in the price) served in the garden barn.
We have an interesting selection of plants for sale on the nursery plus a selection of vintage gardenalia for sale.
There is the added bonus of viewing beautiful cut flower beds belonging to Vervain a contemporary Flower Studio.
There are Toilet facilities on site.
