CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2025
Welcome everybody and thank you for attending the AGM. I know from experience of other clubs that AGM’s are not always well attended.
This year has been another very successful one for the club with an increasing membership and a healthy bank balance mainly due to the plant sale and I would like to thank Hilary for all her efforts. Having a financial buffer is a great benefit.
One topic discussed is having dinners and lunches as a club. I know some members do not like driving after dark and others cannot make midweek lunches due to work commitments. To this end we are considering moving the March dinner to a date in June. Does anyone have any views on this?
The show will soon be upon us and if you have had the same weather as I have you may be wondering if you will have anything to enter. The show committee led by Jane puts in a great deal of work and I would urge you not to prejudge your produce but enter and let the judges decide. Last year I thought I was a great grower of garlic and thought I might get a red card if I entered this year. I have now learnt this year that I am not quite as good a grower of garlic as I thought! Jane is going to say a few words later.
The current committee has nearly 75 years of service between its members who are all getting older and the time is coming for newer members to take over. As such the existing committee is looking to step down in 2027. I would ask any members who think they may wish to help run the club to speak to either myself or the secretary.
