Welcome back to the Hall for our first meeting of the autumn and our speaker for September is Bill Laws on the subject of Apples, Pears and the Herefordshire Pomona

HELP REQUIRED:

This month we are in need of help to set up the Hall as Nick has “gone fishing” so we would appreciate more help getting out the tables and chairs when we open the hall at 7.00 pm and, of course clearing up at the end of the evening.

To Jane Goldman and Mary Locock for organising the refreshments this month and to those who help setting up the chairs before the meeting and clearing away at the end of the evening.

AUGUST SHOW:

A message from Jane:

A big ‘thank you’ to all those who contributed towards making our 2026 Annual Show a roaring success, whether that be entering exhibits, visiting the show or helping with the show organisation, teas and stalls.  The Show Group is already planning for the 2027 show and are looking for recipe suggestions for the cookery section.  If you would like to submit a recipe, please email it to ODGCShow@gmail.com, preferably with a picture attached. Please only submit recipes that you have successfully tried yourself.  The deadline for submitting recipes is 11th October.

CHANGE TO NOVEMBER SPEAKER:

Our speaker on the 24th November is now James Pearson, many of you will already know James as the judge for the floral sections of our August Show.

James will be speaking to us on the subject of “The history of Burford House and gardens”

Our website has already been changed to give more detail and I am trying to arrange a visit to the garden in June next year, which James says is the best time for the roses.

DECEMBER MEAL:

As already confirmed, a reservation has been made at The Riverside for Tuesday, 8th December – more details to follow when the menu is available.

The layout will be the same as last year – 4 tables of 8 – so reservations will be on a first come basis and I already have two names on the list (not mine!) because the members can’t come to the October/November meetings.

AGM:

A gentle reminder of a couple amendments made at the AGM

  • Our financial year will run for 13 months this year so as to move our year end until 31st December and our constitution has been amended on our website.
  • Although this doesn’t take effect until January 2027, our meeting will start at 7.30 pm with refreshments being available from 6.45 pm until 7.15 pm.

Did you leave anything behind on AGM night?  I am looking after two spoons and a small glass.

PLANT TABLE:

Just a gentle reminder that we have a plant sales table every month we are in the Hall (not AGM night and possibly not January).  Over time we seem to have forgotten that not everyone grows fruit and vegetables so remember, if you have any surplus produce bring it along and donate it to the Club for sale on Club night.
