ODGC Newsletter May 2026
THANKS:
To Maggie Jennings, Morwenna Lloyd and Caroline Seaman for providing the refreshments this month and those members who help set up and tidy up the Hall on the evening.
Also, to Marjan Bartlett-Freriks and Lucey van den Bergh for organising the audio and visual set up.
OUR MAY SPEAKER:
We welcome back Timothy Walker who is speaking to us on “Scent in the garden”
DON’T FORGET:
- Membership renewal was due in January and payments to the Club are now preferred by either BACS, card or cash.
- Write-ups of previous meetings can be found on our website under “Meeting Reports”
AGM – 28th JULY:
There have been no requests made by members to change anything in the rules or general information.
However, your committee wish to recommend the following two changes:
Under Rule 8a. of the Constitution, the financial year ends on the 30th November. With us holding a meal in December, money being paid into the bank in November and not paid out until December, it makes reconciliation a little complicated.
We therefore recommend changing the financial year end to the 31st December and therefore 2025/2026 will be a 13-month year.
Under the Club Information, the Organisation of the club states that the meeting formally commences at 8.00 pm.
It has become obvious that speakers are used to a 7.30 pm start and we are proposing making this change. We will obviously have to make other slight changes to the format of the evening.
Full details of the Club Information and Rules/Constitution can be found on our website.
If you are interested in the future of the Club, offers of help always gratefully received, you don’t necessarily need to join the committee as there are jobs that can be done by just reporting to the committee.
The AGM is a very small part of the evening! The main part is a sharing supper, more details next month.
PLANT SALE – SUNDAY, 17TH MAY:
Once again, we had a very successful plant sale so many thanks to all those who supplied plants, helped set up, sell and tidy up.
Nick will give the final total but we still raised over £1,000.
NEXT MEETING:
Tuesday, 30th June – Alun and Jill Whitehead on “Hidden gardens of Herefordshire”
OF INTEREST:
We have been approached by a member of the public who wished to dispose of a large grapefruit tree that is getting to heavy for her to move in and out of her conservatory. It stands about 6 ft tall in its pot and is stored in a heated conservatory over winter and moved outside after the last frost.
Also, we have been approached by a member who has a hot bin compost bin that needs a new home for a small donation.
I have pictures of both these items which I can forward to anyone interested.
Monica
