Winter Colour and Interest in the Garden                                                            

Duncan Coombs started his horticultural career as an apprentice working for what was then the GLC Merton and Morden Parks and Open Spaces Department.

He later trained at Pershore College of Horticulture, obtained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Master in Horticulture and took an Honours Degree in Botany from Bristol University.

Following employment in the Scientific Civil Service, Smith Kline Beecham, and research at I.C.I. Agrochemicals Division he finally returned to Pershore College where he lectured in Decorative Horticulture for over 30 years.

Now in retirement he gardens, gives talks to garden clubs and other organizations, leads garden tours, writes books and travels widely plant hunting
