ORLETON AND DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB
MAY 2025 NEWSLETTER
WELCOME TO:
New members – Sally Alleton from Yarpole, Judy Baker, Yvonne Lewis and Olivia Van Den Bergh from Orleton
THANKS:
To Mary Locock and Andrea Crewe for providing the refreshments this month and those members who help set up and tidy up the Hall on the evening.
OUR MAY SPEAKER:
Helen Picton is speaking to us this month on the subject “it’s not time for bed yet”
Helen is the owner of the small family nursery – Old Court Nurseries, Colwall – and they have specialised in Michaelmas daisies since 1906 and are holders of the Plant Heritage National Collection of over 430 varieties, displayed in the charming 1.5-acre Picton Garden.
We have a visit arranged for 7th October, which will be a car sharing visit. More details in the near future.
DON’T FORGET:
- Payments to the Club are now preferred by either BACS, card or cash.
- Write-ups of previous meetings can be found on our website under “News and Views”
AGM – 29th JULY:
There have been no requests made to change anything in the rules or general information, so apart from payment methods, these will remain the same.
If you are interested in the future of the Club, offers of help always gratefully received, you don’t necessarily need to join the committee.
The AGM is a very small part of the evening! The main part is a sharing supper, more details next month.
PLANT SALE – SUNDAY, 18TH MAY:
Once again, we had a very successful plant sale so many thanks to all those who supplied plants, helped set up, sell and tidy up.
Although takings were down very slightly on last year, we still raised over £1,000 and the suggestion of the tea ladies to add bacon and sausage baps increased their taking and very nice the baps were.
It would appear that we still have to do some tweaking on timing as we did still have some complaints about starting to sell before 10.30 am so yet another rethink before next year!
VISIT TO FIELD FARM – THURSDAY, 10TH JULY:
The visit is arranged for 10th July, 2025 at 2.30 pm. This visit will be a “make your own travel arrangements” and there is plenty of parking space.
As I have now been able to confirm to Kim that we will be more than 20 she will be sending me full directions soon for those who haven’t visited before.
The visit consists of a walk / talk tour of the garden followed by tea and cakes in the barn. The cost of the visit is £10 per person.
There is still time to book and please pay via BACS if possible. Click here to view.
44th ANNUAL SHOW – SATURDAY 16TH AUGUST:
